George Street Social

We arrived at George Street Social midday ish and we’re quickly seated upstairs in a window table with a lovely view of the city centre. There was a great atmosphere and it was very busy! Some people who came for brunch were waiting for tables so I would highly recommend booking online in advance.

The first thing I had was was the poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and smoked salmon. The eggs were cooked perfectly and were runny as requested! My friend got the shakshouka which he had never tried before and said it was very tasty and extremely filling. It came with a side of bread.

Afterwards, we also tried the GSS french toast which was a bit too sweet for me but still lovely. I think I prefer savoury breakfasts!

The bottomless Prosecco was free flowing and they ensured the glasses were not empty!

This Sunday I got the chance to try brunch at George Street Social- one of Oxford’s best known brunch spots! George Street social is a colorful and cozy space offering a wide ranging menu. It has an industrial chic interior with a funky literature themed staircase, and the booths each have a window from which you can watch George Street buzzing on a Sunday afternoon. Once you manage to find a booth, be sure to pick a up a board game, too!

The brunch menu includes a range of vegan and vegetarian options, and my favorite - Turkish eggs, served with natural yoghurt, harissa, and spices on campaillou bread! A close second is the Baked Shahkshuka - a baked egg dish accompanied with tomatoes, peppers and herbs, with a further choice of sides including roasted aubergine, feta and edamame. They also have an extensive drinks menu but I opted for their classic, homemade, lemonade - always a perfect balance of sweet and tangy.

Although it tends to be loud on weekends, on the weekdays it can be a great place to study or work as all the tables come with laptop and usb sockets and high speed WiFi. This bright and quirky space is the perfect for a catch up with friends, and it’s sure to satisfy your pancake, poached egg, French toast cravings!
