Here is ‘That Oxford Girl’ student ambassador Katie’s experience:

In the mix of a busy Oxford schedule it’s important to make time to relax and spend time with friends, even more so under current circumstances. I’m not a club person so one of my favourite ways to do this has always been to go for dinner.

I was lucky enough to be gifted a dinner at Pho Oxford, a Vietnamese restaurant in the rooftop of Westgate. This was the first time I’ve been to a restaurant since lockdown eased and I honestly felt very safe. The restaurant has taken lots of steps to make the experience COVID-secure, you scan the NHS Track and Trace code on the door as you enter and sanitise your hands before being taken to your table. All the staff are wearing masks and keep a good distance from you, you can also see regular cleaning taking place. The tables are really well spaced out so you don’t feel too close to other diners. For a first COVID dining experience, I couldn’t have asked for more!

Even with the restrictions the restaurant has a great atmosphere with really cool art on the walls and a super enticing smell as soon as you walk through the door!

Most importantly, the food was amazing! I started with vegetable spring rolls followed by the famous Pho (the Vietnamese national dish) with beef brisket, both of which were absolutely delicious and presented beautifully! I really liked that the staff, who were always incredibly friendly, gave recommendations on how best to enjoy the food. For the spring rolls, they suggested putting on a mint leaf before wrapping the lettuce over the top - something I never would have thought to do but it tasted great! The noodle soup has a reputation for a reason! Really warming comfort food that you can see how much care has gone into preparing. As someone who doesn’t have the greatest spice tolerance, I loved that the herbs/spices came on a separate plate for you to adjust to your taste. The soup was already super tasty, so being able to adapt the flavour as you go was a great addition to the experience.

If you’re looking for a relaxed evening with hearty food that tastes amazing, I can’t recommend Pho highly enough!
