What I wish I had known before my interviews

By Ellie Harrison

Interviews are a nerve-wracking experience and looking back a year later there are a few things that I wish I had realised and known at the time.

Firstly, remember that Oxford isn’t the be all and end all. Whilst it is an amazing university and place to study, it isn’t suited to everyone and there are lots of other great universities in the UK. Keeping this in mind will make the whole interview process a lot less stressful and pressurised.

Secondly, enjoy Oxford during Christmas time. Go and explore what Oxford has to offer and visit the Christmas markets. I didn’t really explore Oxford much during my interviews which was a real shame as this would have really put me at ease in between my interviews.

It is completely normal to feel nervous but try not to let the nerves and adrenaline get to you. Remember that everybody is in the same boat and feeling just as nervous and scared as you.

Try to make an effort to meet new people and explore the college. Interviews whilst being a stressful time can also be a great opportunity to meet like-minded people.

Just remember that you deserve to be at the interviews and so take full advantage of the opportunity to talk about your subject with the experts in the field. Try not to doubt yourself and prove what you can do because the tutors really believe that you have potential.

Finally, be yourself and enjoy what will be a unique but nerve-wracking experience.

Regardless of the outcome, you should be so proud of yourself for making it this far!
